離心式壓縮機主要用來壓縮氣體，主要由轉子和定子兩部分組成：轉子包括葉輪和軸，葉輪上有葉片、平衡盤和一部分軸封；定子的主體是氣缸，還有擴壓器、彎道、迴流器、迸氣管、排氣管等裝置。

空壓機特徵特點：

由電動機直接驅動壓縮機，使曲軸產生旋轉運動，帶動連桿使活塞產生往復運動，引起氣缸容積變化。

由於氣缸內壓力的變化，通過進氣閥使空氣經過空氣濾清器（消聲器）進入氣缸，在壓縮行程中，由於氣缸容積的縮小，壓縮空氣經過排氣閥的作用，經排氣管，單向閥（止回閥）進入儲氣罐，當排氣壓力達到額定壓力0.7MPa時由壓力開關控制而自動停機。
