英文名稱 ： building engineering，constructional engineering
建築工程為新建、改建或擴建房屋建築物和附屬構築物設施所進行的規劃、勘察、設計和施工、竣工等各項技術工作和完成的工程實體。
是指各種房屋、建築物的建造工程，又稱建築工作量。這部分投資額必須興工動料，通過施工活動才能實現。
建築工程，指通過對各類房屋建築及其附屬設施的建造和與其配套的線路、管道、設備的安裝活動所形成的工程實體。其中「房屋建築」指有頂蓋、樑柱、牆壁、基礎以及能夠形成內部空間，滿足人們生產、居住、學習、公共活動等需要，包括廠房、劇院、旅館、商店、學校、醫院和住宅等；「附屬設施」指與房屋建築配套的水塔、自行車棚、水池等。「線路、管道、設備的安裝」指與房屋建築及其附屬設施相配套的電氣、給排水、通信、電梯等線路、管道、設備的安裝活動。
建設工程與建築工程概念的區別
《建設工程質量管理條例》第二條規定，本條例所稱建設工程是指土木工程、建築工程、線路管道和設備安裝工程及裝修工程。
顯然，建築工程為建設工程的一部分，與建設工程的范圍相比，建築工程的范圍相對為窄，其專指各類房屋建築及其附屬設施和與其配套的線路、管道、設備的安裝工程，因此也被成為房屋建築工程。
故此，橋梁、水利樞紐、鐵路、港口工程以及不是與房屋建築相配套的地下隧道等工程均不屬於建築工程范疇。

1、布置和走向比較自由
