固溶處理的作用
1.使鋼管組織和成分均勻一致，這對原料尤其重要，因為熱軋線材各段的軋制溫度和冷卻速度不一樣，造成組織結構不一致。在高溫下原子活動加劇，σ 相溶解，化學成分趨於均勻，快速冷卻後就獲得均勻的單相組織。
2.消除加工硬化，以利於繼續冷加工。通過固溶處理，歪扭的晶格恢復，伸長和破碎的晶粒重新結晶，內應力消除，不銹鋼鍛件抗拉強度下降，伸長率上升。不銹鋼鍛件
3.恢復不銹鋼固有的耐蝕性能。由於冷加工造成碳化物析出，晶格缺陷，使不銹鋼耐蝕性能下降。固溶處理後鍛件耐蝕性能恢復到最佳狀態。
對於不銹鋼鍛件而言，固溶處理的3個要素是溫度、保溫時間和冷卻速度。固溶溫度主要根據化學成分確定。一般說來，合金元素種類多、含量高的牌號，固溶溫度要相應提高。特別是錳、鉬、鎳、硅含量高的鋼，只有提高固溶溫度，使其充分溶解，才能達到軟化效果。
但穩定化鋼，如1Cr18Ni9Ti，固溶溫度高時穩定化元素的碳化物充分溶解於奧氏體中，在隨後的冷卻中會以Cr23C6 的形態在晶界析出，造成晶間腐蝕。為使穩定化元素的碳化物（TiC 和Nbc）不分解、不固溶，一般採用下限固溶溫度。不銹鋼俗話說就是不容易生銹的鋼，實際上有一部分的不銹鋼鍛件，既含有不銹性，又含有耐酸性（耐蝕性）。不銹鋼的不銹性和耐蝕性是因為它表面上富鉻氧化膜（鈍化膜）的形成，其中不銹性和耐蝕性是相對的。
實驗證明，鋼在大氣、水等弱介質中和硝酸等氧化性介質中，其耐蝕性就會隨鋼中鉻含水量的增加而提高，則是成正比例的.當鉻含量達到一定的百分比時，鋼的耐蝕性就發生突變，即從易生銹到不易生銹，從不耐蝕到耐腐蝕。
不銹鋼的時效處理
指金屬或合金工件（如低碳鋼等）經固溶處理，從高溫淬火或經過一定程度的冷加工變形後，在較高的溫度放置或室溫保持其性能，形狀，尺寸隨時間而變化的熱處理工藝。一般地講，經過時效，硬度和強度有所增加，塑性韌性和內應力則有所降低。含碳較高的鋼，淬火後立即獲得很高的硬度，但其塑性變得很低。但鋁合金淬火後，強度或硬度並不立即達到峰值，其塑性非但未下降，反而有所上升。經相當長時間（例如4~6晝夜）的室溫放置後，這種淬火合金的強度與硬度顯著提高，而塑性則有所下降。這種淬火合金的強度和硬度隨時間而發生顯著變化的現象，叫做時效。室溫下進行的時效叫自然時效，在一定溫度下進行的時效叫人工時效。時效處理是把材料有意識地在室溫或較高溫度存放較長時間，使之產生時效作用的工藝。
